Lately, I have noticed that a lot of people do not know about certain basic computer functions or actions. So I figured I might as well post about some of the questions I have been receiving as of late.
From the name it should be quite easy to figure out what this is but I have been getting a lot of questions concerning this. Temp. data is not permanently or concretely saved to the computer’s hard drive. Generally, it is stored inside of a hidden folder called TEMP. This is created by the operating system on your computer/laptop/netbook, since it was created by the operating system to store data temporarily it was indexed so that all of the data will be “dumped” or deleted when the computer shuts down or restarts.
Temp. data is created when you start a program, go to certain websites, or when you download files from the internet and neglect to select the save option.
In Windows 7 there are two shortcuts that allow the user to quickly switch between every window you have open. Activating them is simple, as it is just a button combination.
The first combination is Windows key + TAB. This seems to zoom out the screen and presents all your windows in a card sort like method, where each window is shrunk and spaced one behind the other. Switching is easy, just press the TAB button once, while holding down the windows key, to start the process and press TAB again to switch to the next window.
The second combination is ALT + TAB. Just like the last combination, pressing TAB again switches to the next window in the order. Unlike the previous way, this method creates a rectangle in the middle of the screen with every window shrunken down to a small rectangle.
Websites Live Updates(this is actually just speculation):
This is a very simple, in theory, process that a lot of websites are using now, most notably facebook. The theory is that since things are happening all the time there should just be a live stream of information being accessed when you are on that website. In actuality, when one accesses a website on the internet the data for how the site looks and the information on the site is temporarily stored on your computer. That data is then interpreted by the active web browser. When you refresh the page, you re-download the data stored on the internet. The internet is simply a way of accessing the data, stored on a server, remotely. Even if there is a change to the website’s data, after you have accessed it, in its stored location, the data that has been temporarily stored on your computer has not been changed so it will not be acted on. But then how do some websites update themselves without the user refreshing the page if the data is concrete? This is accomplish in the coding of the website. The code, very simply, is telling the browser to re-access the data stored on the internet after a particular time frame has passed. This can be literally any amount of time the designer wants, for example Facebook seems to have it re-access the feed data every couple minutes while the data is active. If you change to a different tab, after a certain amount of the time the data will become inactive and will update when the data switches back to active.
Well this is my first attempt at a blog so I guess I’ll start this off simply.
Today, we started learning definite integrals in Calculus. Nothing too exciting, since I already know integrals pretty well. I find it odd that we started with definite integrals instead of indefinite integrals. Indefinite integrals give a better base for integrals as it actually teaches how to integrate functions. Jumping straight into definite integrals seems a bit foolhardy as it is hard to integrate without actually knowing how to do so. However, that may be why we started only with finding the sum of squares under the curve of the function on an interval.
Nothing of particular interest happened in my computer classes. All we learned about was what shadowing is in programming. It’s not a hard concept, basically if you declare a variable public in the base class and declare another variable with the same name in the derived class, then in order to use the variable from the base class you need to code super.variable name. Just typing the variable name refers to the variable declared in the derived class. It’s really simple and apparently it is confusing for programmers so we should not do it, but it seems straight forward to me.
Fencing today was a lot of fun. My lesson today seemed to go a lot quicker than usual, so I think my stamina is getting a lot better. Practice is still pretty hard though, I can make it through warm ups fine but when we get to drills I can only keep up for about 75% of it. Then I get really tired and slow down. I did pretty well in the bouts today, two or three wins is not that great but it’s a lot better than when I started. Better still I can score some points on the best fencer on the team now.
Currently I’m feeling much better, my throat does not hurt me as much as it did yesterday. Though I am rather tired today, not just because of fencing practice but also due to me not sleeping to well last night. Also since Melissa is probably the only one reading this… Hi Melissa! I hoped you liked my first post.
